BAföG
If you have recognised refugee status in Germany you can apply for BAföG immediately, regardless of how long you've already been here. Persons with exceptional leave to remain (“Duldung”) or those with a residence permit on humanitarian grounds may only apply for BAföG after 15 months of residency in Germany. BAföG is state-funded financial support for students who are unable to meet the costs of studying themselves. BAföG stands for “BundesAusbildungsförderungsGesetz” (German Federal Training Assistance Act).
Costs of studying
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences does not charge tuition fees. However, students are obliged to pay a semester contribution which consists of fees for the student union, the student administration (AStA) and the semester ticket for local public transport.
